  • Forskolin Fit Pro Review: Does it Work?

    What is it?

Forskolin Fit Pro is a weight loss diet pill made with 100% forskolin for burning fat and creating lean muscle gains. It’s marketed as a “premium forskolin extract” brand that also resists against future fat storage.

The website outlines how there’s 4 different ways for it to help with weight loss. It contains 20% forskolin which is higher than other brands that use only a 10% extract. A video from a Dr. Oz segment is also showed to help describe what the key active ingredient in Forskolin Fit Pro can do. Our review experts have reviewed many weight loss diet pills and they’ve found the most effective to be Sletrokor. It’s a fat burning diet pill made with plant based extracts without artificial additives. Discover more about Sletrokor by clicking on the link provided here.

Do You Know the Best Weight Loss Pills of 2016?

Forskolin Fit Pro Ingredients and Side Effects

No supplements facts label is offered, but it is claimed that there’s just one ingredient:

20% Pure Forskolin Extract (250 mg of Natural Forskolin)

20% Pure Forskolin Extract (250 mg of Natural Forskolin): The roots of this plant contain a chemical that is used to treat heart issues, chest pain, high blood pressure and respiratory problems.

It can create stronger heartbeat and widen blood vessels which lead to a reduction of blood pressure.

It’s a mint like plant that is also to help increase testosterone and fat loss. Due to this effect, it’s often more used in men rather than women. The way it’s intended to work is by stimulating cell function that helps stimulate body functions. This is done by raising what’s known as cyclic AMP.

Our review experts have crafted list of the top ranked weigh toss diet pills here.

Research on whether or not this effect is possible is limited as Examine.com mentions:

“Forskolin is still being researched for its effects on testosterone and fat loss”

    Another review by Drugs.com adds:

“Quality clinical trials are lacking to support claims made of the weight loss properties of forskolin”

Though the official Forskolin Fit Pro website claims that it has the optimum level of forskolin, this has not been proven either. Examine.com also adds:

“Further research is need to determine the optimal Coleus forskohlii dose”

So it’s unknown whether or not it has a functional strength in comparison to other brands with the same active ingredient. It can also potentially lead to side effects and has a warning:

    Irregular or rapid heart rate.

    Extremely low blood pressure.

    Increased risk of bleeding.

Not advised for those with certain kidney diseases.

The available science shows that there are not only side effects and safety concerns, but that it’s not yet proven effective to have any benefit towards weight loss. This makes it impossible to determine if taking this would be safe and useful.

Forskolin Fit Pro Quality of Ingredients

forskolin-fit-proA problem with Forskolin Fit Pro is that it fails to provide a nutrition facts label. It’s unknown if it contains any inactive ingredients. Certain additives can include food coloring and binders, which aren’t good to consume.

Even if the only ingredient is a pure forskolin extract at 20%, it’s still not proven to be effective for weight loss. Without any real scientific proof it’s impossible to determine the overall quality.

The manufactures of Forskolin Fit Pro do provide some testimonials, but it’s unknown if these are legitimate or if they’re due to the placebo effect.

The Price and Quality of Forskolin Fit Pro

Before you can determine the total cost you have to submit personal information. They claim this is so one can get a free trial bottle, but you also have to submit your credit card information after you give your contact details.

This forces potential customers to lock themselves in a monthly contract, which is what certain businesses do to prevent people from escaping payments. It’s known as an auto-renewal plan, and it creates a legal contract often with hidden tactics like the one’s employed by the makers of this diet pill.

Each bottle offers a month long supply which sells for $99. This will be automatically charged each month if one does not following their specific returns procedure. This price breaks down to a daily cost of $3.30. This is significantly more costly than other brands which use similar amounts of forskolin.

The company also hides this information until after you submit sensitive personal information. For a comprehensive list of the top ranked weight loss diets, click on the link here.

    Phone Number: (888) 221-2554

The website mentions that one must submit a claim and answer any and all questions within 15 days to get a return. You also have to return the product and pay shipping costs. This is only explained in small print and is not expressed in an easy to read way on the main website. One has to dig through the information to learn this fact.

They also fail to mention what address or email they use to contact them. This is often the case with companies who try and lure customers with secretive auto-enrollment plans.

In researching the company there was a Better Business Bureau alert due to their business practices. Here are some reviews from customers about the business:

“said I would not get a refund”

“I asked to speak with a supervisor and he was very irate which confused me”

“They charged me the whole price for the product without telling me after”

“I do hope this company gets shut down for false advertising, very unprofessional customer service, and refuse to five customers the right to speak to a higher CEO”

All the reviews for the company have been negative. People have complained about a lack of customer service, and that they were charged without notice. Users add how they were unable to cancel their accounts and that often had to have long conversations with the customer service representatives.

There were also complaints about how the company treated them. They had to deal with rude people and were told that they could not ask for their money back, even though they did so within the free trial period. Customers had major concerns about this and often described the company as operating a scam.

The auto enrollment plan that automatically sends out Forskolin Fit Pro to charge people was also not explained. This caused many to suddenly check their back statements to see an expensive charge. Unfortunately, due to the fact that this is explained hidden in the terms and conditions in small print, it’s technically allowed for the company to initiate this kind of practice.

EDITOR’S TIP: For the best results, our experts recommend using weight loss pills for at least 3 months. Save your money by buying a few bottles at once.

Customer Opinions of Forskolin Fit Pro

Very few reviews are available; here are some direct quotes from users:

“have not drastically lost any weight, or even lost any weight for that matter”

“Please do NOT try this product. It doesn’t work and they steal your money”

“I will never recommend this to anyone”

Most people complained about the fact they were charged money either without being told, or even when they cancelled within the free trial period.

Those that did mention their results did not show any weight loss benefits. There’s just one positive review out of the several negative complaints about the product. This makes it unlikely to be effective at all for weight loss. People added how they took an entire bottle and still failed to notice anything from it.

Conclusion – Does Forskolin Fit Pro Work?

Forskolin Fit Pro offers a sleek looking website with many claims of it being able to support well-rounded weight loss. While the website appears legitimate, according to customer reviews the company is not honest about their practices. One has to submit personal information such as their credit card information and there’s no notice after about having to cancel. Only hidden in the website is there mention of this fact. Users have largely said that the company is difficult to deal with and that they do not honor their money back return policy. This caused many to suddenly notice an automatic charge on their bank statement without warning.

    Thiamine
    Riboflavin
    Niacin
    Vitamin B6

    Vitamin B12
    Folic Acid
    Pantothenic Acid
    Chromium
    Caffeine

    Green Tea Leaf Extract
    African Wild Mango Seed Extract
    Rhodiola Rosea Root Extract
    White Kidney Bean Extract

Caffeine: A common stimulant used to help increase metabolism, energy, and focus while suppressing appetite. There’s a total of 180 mg of caffeine in Saba Ace. At the advised 2 capsules a day there is a total of 360 mg of caffeine. According to the Mayo Clinic:

“Up to 400 milligrams (mg) of caffeine a day appears to be safe for most healthy adults” That’s roughly the mount of caffeine in four cups of brewed coffee”

The amount of caffeine in Saba Ace is just 40 mg from reaching the advised daily limit. This is likely way each bottle states:

“Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily. Do not take near bedtime as this product may cause restlessness”

This amount of caffeine may potentially lead to side effects such as:

    Restlessness, difficulty sleeping, and restlessness.

    Headaches, nausea, and stomach pain.

    Increased urine, jitters, and spasms.

Rapid heart rate, dehydration, and abnormal heart rate.

When taking this heavy dose of caffeine it’s highly advised to not take it within bedtime. It may lead to sleep disturbances and other related side effects. People who are sensitive to caffeine would likely be unable to supplement with this diet pill.

Green Tea Leaf Extract:  Extract from the Camellia sinensis plant which is used due to tis antioxidant and caffeine content. It’s used to increase mental focus and energy while increasing metabolism. It may potentially case side effects such as:

Headaches, difficulty concentrating, and mood swings.

    Irritability, nausea, and stomach pain.

Jitters, cold sweats, and muscle spasms.

    Heartburn, dizziness, and convulsions.

Our review experts have crafted a top ranked list of the best weight loss diet pills.

African Wild Mango Seed Extract: This seed is grown in parts of African and is used to promote weight loss due to its fiber.

Rhodiola Rosea Root Extract: Herb used in ancient Chinese and Scandinavian culture as a way to increase energy and mental focus. Web MD has stated however:

“Rhodiola is used for many conditions, but so far, there isn’t enough scientific evidence to determine whether or not it is effective for any of them”

    They also discuss potential symptoms

“The safety of long-term use is not known. The potential side effects of rhodiola are not known”

There’s a complete lack of any quality evidence to help show what this additive can do.

White Kidney Bean Extract: This dietary carbohydrate blocker is used to reduce the amount of absorbed carbohydrates when taken alongside meals. Examine.com has added:

“its potency is quite unreliable and relatively subpar”

This makes it unlikely to lead to any effects.

    Saba Ace Quality of Ingredients

saba-aceSome ingredients such as African wild mango seed extract and caffeine can promote weight loss; however the added caffeine may also produce side effects. Other additives such as green tea leaf extract, rhodiola rosea, and white kidney beam extract have yet to be proven safe and effective.

The company claims to have had years of clinical research to create this formula, but there is no evidence to help prove this claim. Many of these ingredients are often added to other weight loss diet pills, but it’s not unique to Saba Ace.

The formula is a very standard mixture of ingredients and there’s no evidence to show they are synergistic. Due to the high amount of caffeine it may also interact negatively.

The Price and Quality of Saba Ace

Each bottle is a 30 day supply, and when purchased direct from the official website it retails for $60. This averages to a $2 per daily use. Many of the added vitamins and minerals can be replaced with whole foods. The 5 other ingredients include caffeine, rhodiola rosea, African mango wild seed extract, green tea leaf extract and white kidney bean extract.

Green tea leaf extract can be purchased for cheaper elsewhere, and rhodiola rosea and white kidney bean extract have failed to be proven effective.

The high amount of caffeine is also a major issue as it almost meets the maximum advised daily limit. This can potentially promote many side effects. Discover which diet pills were rated as the best overall by clicking this link.

    Business of Saba Ace

The name of the company is AMS Health Sciences LLC and they are a multilevel marketing company.  Their contact information is as follows:

    Phone Number: (866) 758-7222

    Address: 711 NE 39th Street

    Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73105

    Email: info@sabaforlife.com

The FDA sent them a warning letter which read:

“Your firm failed to implement quality control operations in your manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and holding operations for producing dietary supplements to ensure the quality”

“You firm failed to establish specifications for the identity, purity, strength, and composition”

“Failed to comply with the Current Good Manufacturing Practice”

This warning was included to Saba Ace as well. It all shows how the manufacturers have failed to honor the important process of checking for purity and strength as well as proper labeling. There were also claims about Saba Ace which are found to be untrue.

In researching whether or not they offer money back guarantee the official website mentions:

“Products purchased through the www.sabaforlife.com or ww.ams.maimline.com websites are subject to the return policies found in the Policies and Procedures manual”

For unknown reason they fail to provide any information on what it would take to file a return, or if they even allow for returns for unsatisfied customers. A list of the highest rated weight loss diet pills can be found in the link provided.

EDITOR’S TIP: For the best results, our experts recommend using weight loss pills for at least 3 months. Save your money by buying a few bottles at once.

    Customer Opinions of Saba Ace

Here are some select quotes taken from customer reviews:

“does not suppress your appetite nor give you more energy. You actually eat more”

“It has been a month now and I cannot see any results”

“made me throw up after being on it for two days, I was taking only 1 pill a day also made my heart flutter a lot”

“WATCH OUT FOR THE MOOD SWINGS! After two days I had to stop because I was so agitated I made everyone around me miserable”

There are a total of 350 reviews on their Amazon.com page with half being positive and half being negative. The issue with this is that since the company is operating a multilevel marketing company. This allows for anyone to become a distributor. This often promotes them to leave positive reviews to help promote brands made by this company.

The majority of negative reviews are from users who say it either had no effects, or that it made them jitter and hyperactive. People often added how they didn’t feel that Saba Ace had anything more than just a high amount of caffeine.

Conclusion – Does Saba Ace Work?

Fuxocanthin: Extract taken from brown seaweed which is used to help burn fat. While it’s claimed to have these benefits, Examine.com has reviewed clinical studies and they have concluded:

    “needs more corroborating evidence”

A clinical study by the Sun Yat-Sen University also confirmed:

“More extensive animal experimentation and well-controlled clinical trials are suggested for further studies”

Glucomannan: This form of dietary fiber is sued to help thicken and emulsify other ingredients. It’s also claimed to help promote weight loss by satiating appetite and reducing bad cholesterol.

Web MD has also expressed caution by adding:

“There can sometimes cause blockages of the throat or intestines”

It’s often advised to drink lots of water when supplementing with this additive. It may also potentially lead to other side effects including:

Indigestion, stomach pain, and increased bathroom use.

Dehydration, lack of mineral absorption, and ill feelings.

A study by the Rush University Medical Center confirmed:

Hoodia Gordonii: This shrub is used to help suppress appetite by sending messages to the brain. However, Examine.com has revealed:

“cannot easily reach the brain to do this, and aside from failures of hoodia to suppress the appetite it may also be mildly toxic and imprudent to supplement”

Judging from the current science, it’s been shown that this has no effect on weight loss.

Green Tea Leaf Extract: This common tea has a high amount of antioxidants and is used to help increase metabolism due to its caffeine. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Science has reviewed clinical studies and has said:

“There have been some case reports of liver problems in people taking concentrated green tea extracts”

They also mention there is a lack of evidence for its use:

“There are not enough reliable data to determine whether green tea can aid in weight loss”

It may also contribute to side effects that can include:

Rapid heart rate, insomnia, and headaches.

Mood swings, ill feelings, and difficulty concentrating.

    Anxiety, panic attacks, and jitters.

Nausea, stomach pain, and increased urine output.

None of the ingredients in Phenocal are revealed as to how much caffeine they contain.

Yerba Mate: The leaves of this plant are brewed into a tea which can increase energy and raise metabolism. It helps to stimulate the muscles, heart, brain, and blood vessels.

Web MD has expressed serious concerns by adding:

“It increases the risk of mouth, esophageal, laryngeal, kidney, bladder, and lung cancer…  When taken in large amounts or for long periods of time, yerba mate is POSSIBLY UNSAFE”

    Potential side effects may include:

    Insomnia, jitters, and cold sweats.

Increased bathroom use, headaches, and ill feelings.

Difficulty concentrating, mood swings, and irritability.

“Forskolin is still being researched for its effects on testosterone and fat loss”

It has yet to be proven effective for weight loss.

Evodiamine: The berries of this tree ae used to help increase weight loss and decrease swelling and pain. Web MD has shown:

“There is not enough information available to know if evodia is safe or what the possible side effects might be”

They also mention that in terms of beneficial effects:

‘There is not enough information to know if evodia has these effects in people”

Due to the lack of information it’s unknown whether or not it would be safe or effective to use.

5-HTP: This chemical is used to help create serotonin to boost mood and aid in reducing obesity. It can potentially be unsafe when taken in large amounts. Possible side effects can include:

No clinical studies are offered and the official bottle states:

“This product contains stimulants and should not be taken by individuals who wish to eliminate stimulants from their diet.”

Without the full dosage strength its unknown how those sensitive to caffeine or who take caffeine from other sources should dose. One month long supply of Phenocal is sold from the official website for $39.85 with $7.95 shipping and handling. They also sell bundle packages for increased savings, but their money back return only extends to just one bottle.

The price is on average what other stimulant heavy diet pills sell for. A main issue with this is the lack of quality ingredients used. It’s unknown what the total amount of caffeine is, but the bottle does mention to limit use due to potential side effects.

Not all the ingredients have been proven to be effective for appetite suppression or weight loss either.

  • How To Age for Beginners

OldPeopleLaughing_400Although I’m not exactly old, I seem to be headed in that general direction. I was born in 1948, which brings up an important question: How much longer can I still pretend to be middle-aged?

Growing older was something that happened to my grandparents. Like so many of my fellow baby boomers, I thought our generation would remain forever young. Apparently we were misinformed. And now that I’m finally coming of age, I’m starting to experience some of the symptoms I’ve been hearing about for years, such as misplacing my car keys, forgetting names, and noticing various aches and pains that seem to have no rational explanation.

I’ve been vaguely aware that a growing number of the jokes that friends were telling me, or passing along over email, had to do with things like memory loss, Alzheimer’s, long marriages, or other concerns of older people. Even so, I wasn’t ready to acknowledge that any of this had much to do with me.

But all of these clues must have been loitering in my unconscious mind, because early in 2015 it suddenly occurred to me to compile a book of jokes about growing older. After all, I couldn’t be the only one who would appreciate a chance to laugh about the approach of sixty, seventy, or some other significant birthday. So I started looking for jokes on age-related topics, and when I finally had enough, I selected the best ones, along with some wonderful cartoons, for this book.

Remember jokes? A priest, a minister, and a rabbi walk into a bar. Three nuns meet Saint Peter at the Pearly Gates. Although comedians stopped telling them long ago, jokes are still around, and one purpose of this book is to make sure they stay around.

With a sensitive subject like aging, it may be worth pointing out that jokes just don’t portray the full scope of reality. They ignore a great deal that is true and reassuring because those things don’t happen to be funny. And the point of jokes and cartoons, and certainly the point of this book, is to make you laugh.

Laughter may not be the best medicine, but a growing body of research is showing that it has some real health benefits:
    •It strengthens the immune system.
•It relaxes the body and reduces stress.
•It lowers blood pressure and increases blood flow.

Laughter also increases the ability to tolerate pain. This brings to mind Norman Cousins, longtime editor of the Saturday Review, who famously checked himself out of a hospital and into a hotel in the mid-1970s after being struck by an especially painful and life-threatening form of arthritis. After putting himself on a regimen of Marx Brothers and television sitcoms, Cousins described “the joyous discovery that ten minutes of genuine belly laughter had an anesthetic effect that would give me at least two hours of pain-free sleep.”

But wait—there’s more. Much like exercise, laughter expands the blood vessels and helps prevent cardiovascular disease.
•Some researchers think it may offset memory loss.
•It releases endorphins, which improve a person’s mood.
•Laughter promotes optimism, which in turn improves resiliency.
•It is also thought to stimulate learning, productivity, and problem solving.
•And according to a seven-year study of more than 50,000 Norwegians, older people with a sense of humor had a lower mortality rate than their counterparts who did not laugh easily at daily events.

Now, even if only half of these claims are actually true, joking about aging should have a real health benefit. Of course, a lot of things have a real health benefit. But how many of them are this much fun?

  • HairMax Review: Don’t Buy Before You Read This!

    What is it?

HairMax is a brand that makes hair regrowth and cosmetic hair enhancement products. They’re intended to work together to help provide maximum increases in hair in those with thinning hairs, and to help improve the look of balding heads with hair fibers.

hairmax-1The company mentions that they’ve performed over 20 years of research into laser therapy to help promote healthy and safe results. It’s made for both men and women looking for denser, fuller, and more vibrant hair. The actual process is known as photobiostimulation which is said to be similar to photosynthesis. This is the same way that plants absorb light as an energy source. The laser energy works to help liven cells and reverse thinning while improving the growth cycle. Other intended benefits include:

It helps provide energy to weakened or inactive hair follicles.

Gives more nutrients and oxygen to hair follicles.

Increase blood circulation and help to remove and waste products.

Quick treatment sessions which are safe and effective for those with any kinds of hairstyles.

The website offers hair fibers, supplements, treatments, shampoos, conditioners, hair stabilizers, and 4 different types of home laser devices.

It’s suggested that the following users should use a HairMax laser device:

“The ideal candidate is one that has mild to moderate hair loss or thinning, and wants to regrow lost hair, and to help prevent further progression. It is best to start treatment at the first signs of hair loss, because the earlier you start, the better your results will be”

Bald users or those with severe hair loss are not able to use this brand, there has to be some hair still available to help promote results. Men and women with moderate hair loss are advised to use it instead. The reason for this is because in bald heads the hair follicles are no longer active. The only product that can be used for bald sports are hair fibers and the product Minoxidil, which uses the same key active ingredient as Rogaine.

Minoxidil also has limitations as it cannot be used for baldness that lies in the front of the scalp or on receding hairlines. It’s known as HairMax Minoxidil, a 5% extra strength formula which is intended to regrow hair within a rough 2 months of daily use. It’s also mentioned that:

“Some people, may need to use this product for at last 4 months before seeing results”

So the intended benefits of all these tools are to help those with thinning hair to regrow their hair. Or one can try the hair fibers on their own to help give the appearance of hair using a common main ingredient found in other similar products.

    Triethanolamine
    Methylisothiazolinone
    Methylchloroisothiazolinone

Minoxidil: The sole key active ingredient in HairMax Minoxidil. It’s added at a total of 5% which is the highest strength allowed. Commonly used as a topical aid for slowing hair loss and to help support growing hair. Examine.com adds:

“technically aids hair growth, it is not advised due to possible complications with blood pressure”

It’s only functional for bald patches and not receding hairlines. It can also promote side effects that include:

    Rash, dizziness, and itchy scalp.

    Redness, burning, and stinging.

The following are signs of a greater issue and are less likely:

Irregular heartbeat, swelling, and unusual weight gain.

Fatigue, difficulty breathing and unwanted facial hair.

hairmax-fiberThere is a possibility for hair loss in the beginning as well. It’s still unknown exactly how it’s made to work according to recent research. It can only be used for those who have thinning or slowly receding hair; it’s not a solution for balding people.

Use is not advised for people with baldness either in the front of the scalp or with receding hairlines. This is signs of baldness which cannot be cured. It can sometimes require a prescription but in the amounts added to HairMax, it does not require any doctor recommendation.

In its topical form it’s an FDA approved method to help regrow hair. There are numerous other products which also use this as a main ingredient.

Keratin: Commonly used hair fiber ingredient which is a protein that makes up hair, horns, feathers, hoofs, and other similar things. In comparison to other hair fiber ingredients, it’s often dustier and slightly rougher than things like cotton.

Keratin is electrically charged in order to stick to exiting hairs in the scalp. They’re meant to stick even during wind, humidity, and sweat. They also take a short time to apply, with usually only second’s need for it to distribute.

The hair fibers in HairMax are said to be lightweight, silky, clump free, and able to go on dry. Keratin typically washes off with water or shampoo, but this brand is said to last even when there is contact with water. This does not stay on during swimming however.  It’s also often only intended for people who have hair already, as it needs something to stick onto.

It can be used on bald spots but it typically has to be stylized and patted down to help make it look natural. Certain kinds of keratin are said to look dust like when viewed up close. There typically are no side effects from this sole ingredient.

Blue 1 CI 42045: This dye is an often found colorant used in hair products. It can be extracted from many things including synthetics, plants, animals, coat, tar and insects. The EWG which provides information about cosmetic ingredients mentions it has a 3 rating which means it has a moderate risk rating. They add how there is a risk for:

    “Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive)”

Since it ranks in the 3 category this means that while some studies have shown a potential for concern, this is typically only for large amounts added topically, or when ingested.

Yellow 5 CI19140: Artificial dye that according to the Environment Canada Domestic Substance List is:

    “Classified as medium health priority”

“Classified as not expected to be potentially toxic or harmful”

It has been shown to be unlikely to cause any unwanted side effects.

Cocamidopropryl Betaine: A hair conditioning ingredient that is used to help cleanse hair. The EWG has mentioned:

“it has been associated with irritation and allergic contact dermatitis”

When added to skin it may cause side effects.

Triethanolamine: This ingredient helps to balance pH levels and it acts as an emulsifier. It has a 5 rating on the EWG scale, which means there is a higher than average potential risk for side effects. The EWG adds:

    “contamination concerns”

    “Oran system toxicity (non-reproductive)”

It can potentially cause skin allergies and immune system damage.

Methylisothiazolinone: This preservative is used in many similar products. The EWG has given it a high risk rating of 7 out of 10. They also add:

“has been associated with allergic reactions. Lab studios on the brain cells of mammals also suggest that Methylisothiazolinone may be neurotoxic”

It has a potential risk for causing irritation to the eyes, lungs, and skin. There is string evidence of it being potentially harmful to overall health. It’s currently banned in parts of Canada, Germany, and Japan.

Due to its many concerns there is a high risk rating. Use of this ingredient should be limited due to the many potentially harsh side effects.

Methylchloroisothiazolinone: This preservative is known to have a potential risk for causing lung, skin, and eye irritations.

The EWG has given it a moderate risk rating of 6.

HairMax’s laser therapy is said to be safe to use since it uses non-hating UV ray lasers that are unlike sun light. They also add:

“There have never been any reports of harmful side effects occurring from using the HairMax laser devices, in the past 15 years that the devices have been on the market, nor from clinical trials”

Judging from what kinds of lasers it emits and customer reviews, it’s unlikely to produce any unwanted side effects. The official website mentions that there’s nothing it in which would lead to irritation or burning. The FDA has also approved it as being safe to use on human skin.

    HairMax Quality of Ingredients

The kinds of ingredients used depend on what product one chooses. The density products such as the shampoo and conditioners contain potentially harmful surfactants and preservatives. They can potentially lead to allergic reactions and even organ system damage. Some of these ingredients have shown the possibility for serious side effects and that’s why they are either restricted or outright banned in certain countries.  The density products also have less reviews than any other products made by HairMax. It’s unknown if there is a high risk factor in the amounts added to these products. However, adding potentially dangerous ingredients like these are not recommended to sensitive people or those worried about such potential issues.

The hair fiber product uses keratin which is commonly used for improving the appearance of hair. They also contain artificial colorants however, some of which may cause irritation with a potential but unlikely risk for organ damage. Keratin is a common ingredient that you’ll find in other hair fiber products. While it’s a decent additive, it’s not unique to HairMax.

The product Minoxidil contains a higher amount of the key active ingredient which is known to potentially cause side effects. It’s also only intended for people with light hair loss or thinning hair, not for bald people or those with receding hairlines. This is important to consider as those looking to regrow hair would have to check and see if they qualify. It’s also commonly found in many other products.

None of these ingredients are intended for those with bald sports or balding heads. Due to the potential side effects there is a lot of concern about whether or not it would be a safe combination of products. All these items are similar to other brands as well.

A review by a clinical professor of dermatology and Weill Cornell Medical College has reviewed the laser products and he said:

“In 2o% of the subjects, it seemed to maybe have an effect”

He has also stated that here is no comprehensive evidence to help show any improvement in hair loss from using the LaserComb in comparison to other prescription such as Rogaine or Propecia.

Another review by a Dr. Paradi Mirmirani who is a dermatologist at Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center who is also a member of the North American Hair Research Society has said:

“I don’t have any evidence… If patients want to spend $500 on this device, it’s their choice. I wouldn’t recommend it. They should save it for something that we know actually works”

It appears from the available evidence that there is mixed findings on the laser devices. As you’ll see in the “Customer Opinions of HairMax” there are mostly criticism and a lack of results from the majority of consumer reviews.

There is a medical clearance by the FDA which shows it’s safe to use and potentially effective. However, judging from the lack of quality customer reviews it appears that its range of effectiveness is lacking. Their items can be best summed up as the following:

Hair fiber: Similar to other keratin hair fiber brands. It’s intended to stand up to wind and sweat. It does contain some cheap colorants which may produce side effects. This ingredient is favored by some in many hair fiber products. It can be stylized according to most users to appear similar to natural hair. It often requires daily maintenance as it can rub off when one is active or after sleeping.

Minoxidil: Similar to products such as Rogaine. It is shown to potentially work for certain kinds of baldness, but is not guaranteed. There is also a risk for many kinds of side effects, and it can potentially cause increased hair loss. While this ingredient is FDA approved, there are many considerations as not everyone is advised to use this additive.

Density Bundles: Contain many potentially harmful ingredients. It’s also intended to help those who are already undergoing treatment of some sort. For people who are bald, there is no reason to use it.

Laser Treatment: Only intended for people with thinning hair and not already bald heads. Though there is a FDA clearance, the majority of reviews are negative. It won’t lead to any side effects and it is safe to use, but it seems that it won’t have any effect at all to help support growing hair according to most customers.

Overall, the quality of the ingredients is poor. There are either issues with potential side effects or a lack of any benefit at all according to most users.

The Price and Quality of HairMax

Pricing varies on the specific items chosen which include:

Minoxidil: $19 for two, 2 fl oz. bottles. This amounts to a 2 month supply.

Hair Fibers: $35 for a 30 gram bottle. Length of use depends on how frequent one applies it.

Density Bundle: $49.95 for the 8.5 fl ox shampoo, 8.5 fl oz. conditioner, and 4.2 fl oz. revitalizer.

    4 different laser devices: Ultima 12 Lasercomb $495, Prima 7 Lasercomb $295, Laserband 82 $795, Advanced 7 Lasercomb $195.

laserband1The different prices for the laser devises are due to the amount of laser modules provided. For example, the most expensive Laserband 82 has 82 modules which need to be applied 3 times a week for 90 seconds. The cheapest Advanced 7 Lasercomb requires 3 days a week for 15 minute treatments. One must consider how much effort they are willing to put in versus the total purchase price.

All the laser devices deliver the same results, but the different is the amount of time it takes for each to operate. The laser products are backed by a guarantee which the company states:

“Use HairMax for a full 5 months, if you are not completely satisfied with the results, return it for a refund 20% restocking fee applies”

Return shipping also must be paid and the guarantee begins as soon as it is delivered. The website does add however that over 90% of all users have benefited from the laser devices. The guarantee is also only offered from purchases made from their official website.  It can also be pricy to have to pay for the 20% restocking fee. To pay for their most expensive laser product it would cost $159.40 to return it if one was to fail to notice any results.

Their website goes on to say that a 2 year factory warranty is provided for every laser device to be free from defects. The guarantees as helpful because they make it easier to try the laser brands to test what kinds of results are possible.  The main issue however is with the vast majority of negative customer reviews. It seems unlikely that one will experience any benefits from their lasers. They’re also highly expensive.

The other items such as the hair fibers, Minoxidil and density bundles are priced at about the same cost of other competitors. The issue with quality is that artificial dyes and potentially harmful surfactants and preservatives are used.

    Business of HairMax

The name of the manufacturers is Lexington International LLC. Their contact information is listed as:

Address: 777 Yamato Rd. Suite 105

    Boca Raton, Florida 33431

    Phone Number: (800) 973-4769

    Email: info@hairmax.com

Calls are toll free from Monday through Friday 9am, to 5pm Eastern Standard Time. A contact form is also offered for direct inquiries or comments.

They currently are in good standing with the Better Business Bureau, with only once complaint which has since been resolved. There ae however 2 negative reviews from customers. The 2 customers added how they didn’t see any results with the laser treatment.

A FDA letter was sent to the company in 2008 for a complaint which reads:

“Our inspection revealed that the HairMax LaserComb Premium and SE models are adulterated under section501”

“you may not market the device for that use until FDA issues an order clearing the device for marketing”

The FDA took issue with the fact that the company said this item could help women regrow their hair. Since this warning letter was sent it does appear that the company has corrected these issues. The official website states that they are FDA approved for both men and women. A disclaimer at the bottom of the website does mention:

“HairMax Laser devices are indicated to treat Androgenetic Alopecia, and promote hair growth in makes who have Norwoof Hamilton Classifications of LLA to V and in females who have Ludwig (Savin) I-4, II-2, or frontal patterns of hair loss and who both have Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to IV”

They do admit that only those with pattern baldness can benefit from this. This will only affect the top and front ends of the scalp. It’s often caused by genetics and excess testosterone buildup. It is a common form of hair loss and cannot be cured from any known things other than hair transplants which are expensive and potentially harmful.

In researching the company it reveals that they have had past issues with the FDA, but they’ve since corrected their problems and fully explain the limitations and intended benefits of their products. No current outstanding issues exist according to consumer reviews.

    Customer Opinions of HairMax

There are reviews available for each HairMax product available. Here are some elected quotes taken from their laser products:

“After six months of consistent use (every other day for 15 minutes) I have seen zero results and my hair is thinner than ever. I’m not even going to go into the mediocre quality of the product”

“I have this product…. (with) constant use and all I really believe I did was save what I have left, I didn’t lose anymore, but didn’t see any growth in my bald patch”

“There are no proven effectiveness here. Just shady marketing techniques. Yes, the product is FDA approved… FOR SAFETY!!!. That’s all it means”

“This is just to much to much work and time consuming. I have not seen a difference. Too expensive for the time you need to put into it with very little to results”

Everyone of their laser products have negative reviews on their Amazon.com page. The highest being the 155 reviews offered on their Advanced 7 LaserComb with the majority 83 is negative. There was a lot of criticism from people who tried it for long periods only to experience no change in hair growth. People were often disappointed and felt that they spent money on a non-functioning product.

The HairMax hair fibers have a total of 35 reviews, with 8 negative remarks and 7 positive reviews. Here’s what some customers have had to say:

“Great to cover those thinning spots. I did notice it does come off on your hands if you touch your hair. Also. If you sweat. I t might stat o look a little cake-y”

“This stuff works great, is easy to use and reasonably priced. It is kind of messy, gets all over the bathroom, but worth it to hide my thinning hair”

“it makes your scalp not show through so much, so hides the thinness”

“Makes my hair dry. Takes all the moisture out”

Overall, the reviews reveal that some people did benefit from use. People who enjoyed it mentioned that it can appear thick and that it can cover bald spots. Those who didn’t like it often added how it’s messy and how they didn’t like the colors. Many had issues with the hair fibers flaking all over and appearing dusty and dirty on the floor.

There is a lot of coverage offered for all kinds of people with hair loss issues. Support is offered for either for those who are completely bald looking for a cosmetic solution, or those with thinning hair. The issue is that the majority of reviews have been mixed for the majority of products.

How does HairMax Compare to other Brands?

Their hair fiber brand is similar to the majority of other keratin products. They do offer multiple 9 different colors which are about the same as other brands. Pricing, usability and overall durability also appears to be the same. There are only a few reviews available however.

Another product is their Minoxidil which is also similarly priced with the same active ingredient as Rogaine. No difference is offered between these 2 products other than availability.

Their laser devices are said to be more tested in clinical studies than their competitors. They also claim on their official website that:

“The other ‘top of hair’ devices have no clinical studies of this kind published pricing their efficacy. Further, the LaserBand utilizes a patented hair parting teeth mechanism that automatically parts the hair during use, for optimal deliver of laser energy to the follicle”

Pricing is higher for HairMax laser products, but they also offer a very comprehensive return policy.  The main issue is of course the 20% restocking fee. Some hair laser brands don’t offer any kind of return but it still can be pricy to return HairMax branded products.

The company also seems to satisfy customers and though they’ve had FDA related issues, they’ve since corrected these problems. The same consistent problem with laser devices of any kind is that they’re often not well reviewed. HairMax shares this same continuous issue that has plagued other similar brands. There have been several clinical studies performed, but these are funded by the company which means there might be a potential bias. Judging from the available customer experiences, it appears unlike that HairMax laser or any laser product actually can improve hair growth.

    Conclusion – Does HairMax Work?

HairMax has many products that are either intended to regrow hair for those with thinning hair, or to help provide a cosmetic enhancement via hair fibers and density enhancing products.  Their most unique product is a series of lasers which are proven safe and said to help regrow any thinning hair. The only product they sell which can potentially regrow any bald spots is their Minoxidil product, but this only affects certain kinds of balding.

These items are all priced similar to other hair cosmetic products, but their lasers are the unique selling brand. There are many versions offered with different amounts of time required. The main issue with the lasers is that the majority of all reviews from users are negative. There haven’t been problems with side effects, only issues with a lack of any noticeable changes in hair growth. People even mentioned that they performed treatments for year long periods only to notice no changes.

Their other products fared better with the majority of users enjoying their hair fibers and also experiencing positive results with their density products.

There’s nothing offered by this brand however which isn’t similar to other products on the market. They do back up their laser devises with a great money back return policy. This allows users to try it for a long period before deciding if they don’t want it anymore. However, this is only available if purchased via the official website. Also, this comes with a expensive 20% restocking fee.

HairMax isn’t likely to support hair regrowth for those who still have hair, and it’s only beneficial to try their hair fibers for a cosmetic enhancement of hair. The company does seem reputable however, and they offer a long lasting guarantee.

  • It’s a Children’s Book. Kindly Suspend Belief

    BookMom4-400x300

One of my husband’s favorite stories about what I do came early in our relationship. I came home tired and cranky after a rough day and he asked what happened. I threw up my hands and after a litany of Things Gone Wrong within the Hour added, “and the art came in and the bunny is just not cute enough for the cover.” He paused then burst into laughter. I paused then burst into mad. “The bunny isn’t cute enough,” he repeated. It was then that I understood how totally absurd that sounded out of context and how somewhat absurd the world of children’s books I live in is. I live in a world where bunnies drive cars, dinosaurs go to school, and cats are doctors. Sometimes bears and fish have play dates.

Welcome to children’s literature; kindly suspend reality.

Before I dive into the rabbit hole, let me be clear that there are many, many books with realistic fiction for kids, from picture books to novels. And then there are the books that feature tigers on telephones and elephants who take bubble baths. I’ve had many conversations with art directors and book designers when I catch myself saying things like “The cow looks weird sitting at the table like that. Can we tell the artist to move her closer to the duck sitting across from her?” And then I have to realize that we are talking about a cow and a duck eating pancakes. With forks. At a table. Before they go to school. Where of course their teacher is a hippopotamus.

I’ve heard from many a disgruntled parent that they don’t like this world. A fox and a chicken as best friends? “But that would never happen in the real world!” they sputter. Probably not. But in the real world they also probably wouldn’t be playing baseball together. And it might not be that funny.  Because the real world these days? Yeah, not too funny.

When I worked at a company that produces a popular children’s television show we were very careful in how we portrayed safe practices for kids. No showing the characters near a hot stove, running with scissors, even eating junk food. When they rode bikes, they wore helmets, as children should (as should their parents). But these characters also didn’t wear shoes, so one could argue that riding a bike shoeless in a city isn’t exactly exemplary role modeling.

In children’s books most editors are mindful that, intentional or not, characters are models for their reading audience. And most editors try hard to get it right. But there comes a time when you realize that showing a shark putting on sunscreen before he goes to the beach gets…a little out of control. (Yes, I know. And yes, in real life our family is slathered in sunscreen.)

There are Big Issues I have to discuss with my children, from Bad Touch to loss to Internet safety to understanding that no means no. And I’ll look to books to help with some of those discussions. But when I just want a story, a fun story, to share and enjoy? Well I couldn’t care less that the alligator and the snail are having a tea party.

I realize that the realists in the world take issue with this. But in my book, quite literally, there’s a time and place for the reality we deal with every day. There are days I walk in the door with “That Look: when my husband simply asks “Bunnies not cute enough?” and I shake my head no.

When it comes to tomatoes playing in a band or a toad that pushes a stuck pick-up truck out of the mud? Kindly suspend belief. And enjoy… the real world and those very un-cute bunnies will catch up soon enough.

Here are some of my favorite silly books featuring things that I am certain would never happen in real life:

  • The Best Theories, Conspiracies, and Unanswered Questions about Famous Crimes

ht_zodiac_sketch_100105_mn_400Why do people care so much about sensational crime stories like O.J. Simpson and Jon Benet Ramsey? Probably for the same reason they love to read murder mystery novels and watch crime dramas on TV.

There’s something satisfying about seeing a murder investigation play out, the killer tracked down and justice handed out–all within a single book or an hour-long TV show.

But–unlike novels and TV shows–real-life crimes don’t always wrap up so neatly at the end, leaving us with many unanswered questions about what really might have happened. Here are some of them:

Who fed pineapples to Jon Benet Ramsey before she was murdered? Twenty years after six-year-old child beauty pageant queen Jon Benet Ramsey was murdered in her Boulder, Col. house, authorities still don’t know who did it. One of the most intriguing pieces of evidence is that her killer apparently fed her pineapples before she died. Pieces of recently eaten pineapple were found in her stomach and a bowl of pineapples left on the kitchen table. Family members said they did not give Jon Benet pineapples that night–and it’s hard to imagine an intruder taking time to do that. But the answer to the pineapple question could solve this baffling murder.

Did the Zodiac Killer die–or just stop killing? The Zodiac Killer is the most famous American serial killer who was never caught. He murdered a series of people in the late ’60s in Southern California, leaving taunting notes with the name Zodiac–then just disappeared. Many theorize Zodiac must have died. Others speculate he simply stopped killing for some reason. Numerous suspects have been pointed to over the years as the possible Zodiac killer, but his identity remains unknown.

Was Son of Sam really just a lone, crazy gunman? David Berkowitz, a troubled postal worker, was arrested after the so-called Summer of Sam and charged with killing 6 people and wounding 7 in a series of random shootings which terrorized New York City during the ’70s. But did Son of Sam act alone? There have long been theories–which Berkowitz himself has discussed at various points–that he was part of a Satanic cult which helped him carry out the NYC shootings and was responsible for other Satanic-inspired crimes around the country. None of these claims have ever been substantiated. Berkowitz remains in prison serving a life sentence.

Could Etan Patz still be alive? Etan Patz was a 6-year-old boy who disappeared on his way to school in lower Manhattan in 1979, becoming the most well-known missing child case in America. After years of fruitless searching, he was declared officially dead in 2001. But because his body was never found, numerous sightings of a possible grown-up Etan Patz have continued to come in from around the world. The FBI still reportedly checks out some of the tips it receives, although no trace of Etan Patz has ever been found. Etan would be 44 years old today if he were alive.

Why did Lee Harvey Oswald only bring four bullets to kill JFK? Many Americans still consider this the biggest unsolved murder case of our times. One of the most mystifying questions is why Lee Harvey Oswald apparently only brought four bullets–three that were shot and one loaded cartridge found with the rifle. No other bullets were ever discovered at the scene or in his possessions. Would someone really set out to murder the President with only four bullets? It’s just one of many unanswered questions that fuel conspiracy theories about JFK’s death.

Did Casey Anthony get away with murder? No trial since O.J. has stirred as much passion as Casey Anthony, ultimately found innocent of the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee–whose body was found in woods a month after she disappeared. Despite various murder scenarios that proved not to be true about Caylee being abducted or sexually molested by someone, Anthony’s defense at the trial was that she had found the little girl drowned in the pool–then hid the body and lied out of panic. Investigators were never able to determine an exact cause of death for little Caylee. But there was a huge outcry of outrage from the public after Anthony was acquitted of the murder charge.

Was John Lennon actually Mark David Chapman’s first target? Chapman had a hitlist of famous people he wanted to kill–including Elizabeth Taylor, Johnny Carson, and possibly even Jackie Kennedy. Also near the top of the list was David Bowie, who was appearing on Broadway (Chapman had a show program and picture of Bowie with him when he was arrested.) He also had a bizarre confrontation with singer James Taylor in a NYC subway station the day before Lennon was murdered. Even to the very end Chapman seemed unsure about killing Lennon–saying afterward that if a girl he’d met outside the apartment building had gone out with him that night he might not have been there. In the end though, he murdered the 40-year-old former Beatle for no discernable reason other than Lennon was famous.

Who killed Nicole Brown Simpson? OK, we’re all pretty sure we know the answer to this one. But since O.J. was acquitted of the murder, it technically still remains an open case. Other potential suspects put forward have been drug dealers, someone else Nicole knew, etc.–and O.J. himself, of course, proclaimed on the courthouse steps after his acquittal that he would now track down Nicole’s real killer. But perhaps the closest answer came in the book called If I Did It, in which O.J. is quoted hypothetically talking about the murder. Some people feel O.J., now in prison on other crimes, will eventually confess to killing Nicole and Ron Goldman before he dies.

Now that would give us a final answer to one sensational crime story!

  • DermMatch Review: Does it Work?

     What is it?

dermmatchDermMatch is a hair concealer product that is made for both men and women. It can create the appearance of hair and it’s suited for people of all hair colors, skin colors, styles, and ages.
It is said to be much better than hair fiber sprays or any other form of concealer. The websites states that it can stay on and appear thicker with a neat look for every stand of hair. You can also brush it, sweat, and swim without it being affected in any way. It’s made up of a powder that is intended to be safe and healthy to use, due to it being all natural. The following 8 different colors are offered:

    White and silver grey.

    Platinum blond

Red, light brown, medium brown, and dark brown.

    Black.

These colors can also be blended to make unique color combinations.

It’s intended to be rubbed on directly into the scalp and brushed. Applicators are also advised to further shape the product. There is no hair regrowth possible; however it won’t also delay regrowth if one is using any products to regain hair. There is no blocking of hair follicles and instead is meant to rest gently on the skin of the scalp.

DermMatch is unique to any other kinds of hair concealers as it can be used even while swimming. No other hair fiber brands or concealers offer this much protection against moisture. It’s intended to be kept on until one shampoos their hair.

The claimed benefits can be summed up as:

Able to stay on longer than any other brand.

    Costs less than the competition.

Applies in a neat way and won’t look messy.

Can improve the quality of skin as it has moisture boosting ingredients for healthy skin.

dermmatchcoloredhairconcelearcolorsMarketing on this brand is limited to their official website and a commercial which is available on YouTube. It does appear to be dated however. It’s said to have been used by doctors as a way to conceal any hair loss.

When using it it’s intended to run on the scalp or existing hair and then brushed to stylize it. It’s essentially a small colored disc with a small applicator which is rubbed on. The official website states:

“DermMatch formula coats the entire hair shaft from top to bottom. This coating thickens the hair shaft tremendously and helps lift it up. Thin, limp hairs stand-up and spread out for spectacular fullness.”

The descriptions on its use and what it can do which are listed on the official website are limited to a few short sentences. It is intended for anyone however. You’ll learn in this review of DermMatch what it has to offer and what the pros and cons are.

    DermMatch Ingredients and Side Effects

The official website does not mention exactly what ingredients are used. Instead they say this:

“It’s a hard packed powdered formula that’s safe and healthful for your skin and hair. It’s loaded with emollients and botanical ingredients that smooth and moisturize. DermMatch contains only safe colorants and no hair dye”

Without being able to see the full ingredients listing its unknown if what they claim is true. Even natural ingredients can potentially cause side effects such as rashes and allergic reactions. They also add:

“You can also bush your hair with it. Don’t try swimming or brushing with hair fibers or other hair concealers. You can’t even bend over with them. They can fall right off”

While not all other brands rub off this easily, it is impressive that DermMatch claims it can last even when exposed to many different environments.

They mention emollients and botanical ingredients are used but this can range from many different ingredients. It’s rare that a company will fail to at least mention the names of some of the ingredients used. It’s unknown if this is to protect the formula or what possible reason there could be. Exposing ingredients is standard to any product as it’s the only way for consumers to know if they’re buying a quality product that won’t cause them any unwanted reactions.

Some user reviews did mention that ingredients like talc, aloe vera, and natural colorants are added. However, since DermMatch has been around since 1992, it’s unknown if they have updated their ingredients since these customers have tried it out. It’s impossible to determine either way as the official website gives no information about the ingredients. Here’s a description of the claimed additives found in DermMatch:

Talc: This soft mineral is often found in things like baby powder and blush. It’s made up of things like silicon, oxygen, magnesium, and hydrogen.

The EWG which lists information about ingredients found in cosmetics has given this ingredient a 3 rating out of 7. This means it’s considered a moderate potential hazard.

It can potentially lead to contamination and organ system toxicity. This is why the amount allowed is typically limited. The FDA has given it a status of:

“Designated as safe for general or specific, limited us in food”

The Environmental Canada Domestic Substance List has it as:

“Classified as medium human health priority”

“Classified as expected to be toxic or harmful”

So it seems likely that there is potential for concern, but only in large amounts and most often when inhaled. It’s unknown how much of it is found in this brand however.

There have been safety concerns over the use of this ingredient due to it containing certain amounts of asbestos. It’s highly unlikely to be taken from this source however when added to anything like cosmetic ingredients, still, it’s impossible to determine. The Cancer Organization has also said:

“In its natural form, some talc contains asbestos, a substance known to cause cancers in and around the lungs when inhaled”

A famous lawsuit was filed for a woman who died from ovarian cancer due to this ingredient. This woman was awarded $72 million for the talc that was used in a baby powder. Web MD has reported on this issue and they’ve said:

“The Fox trial was the first such case of more than 1,000 nationwide to result in a monetary award by a jury”

It’s important to note that not all forms of talc are known to be tainted with any potentially cancer causing substances. Determining whether or not this is an isolated case is unknown.

Aloe Vera: This plant contains a gel which can be used for many different purposes. It can be added to help reduce skin diseases like psoriasis, and it can improve blood circulation to prevent scars. Web MD has stated:

“Aloe gel is LIKELY SAFE when applied to the skin appropriately as a medicine or as a cosmetic”

So this ingredient is safe to use when applied to the scalp. It can also provide health benefits.  The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health also mentions:

“Early studies show that topical aloe gel may help burns and abrasions”

It has also had a long history of effective use in Ayurvedic medicine, where it was treated as well-rounded and natural herbal remedy.

It has also been used in facial tissues as a way to prevent irritation and to moisturize skin. A clinical review featured in the Food Science and Nutrition journal has stated:

“Some publications have appeared in reputable Scientific Journals that have made appreciable contributions to the discovery of the functions and utilizations of Aloe – “nature’s gift.”

They also go on to say:

“Aloe Vera: A Valuable Ingredient for the Food, Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Industries”

It has been shown to have many unique benefits and seems to be an entirely safe cosmetic ingredient.

Emollients: A kind of moisturizer that makes the skin less prone to itchiness while keeping it moist and flexible. It’s also added to prevent any cracks in the skin to also prevent chafing and irritation. This can come in the form of lotions, gels, creams, or ointments. There’s no information about exactly what the official name of the ingredient used in DermMatch uses.

Without knowing the full details it’s impossible to determine whether or not they use a quality emollient. Certain emollients may cause side effects such as rashes, discoloration, itching, and chafing.

Natural Colorants: This form of dye can be taken from different sources including minerals, plants, invertebrates, and other organic sources.

Though it is extracted from natural things, it may still lead to allergic reactions and rashes. Determining exactly what is used is important to be able to decide what the overall quality is like. There are some natural colorants which have also shown the possibility for causing side effects such as organ damage. Some people may also be much more sensitive to this additive.

There are 8 different colors available in DermMatch, and it’s possible that each one is extracted from more than one source. The EWG has listed natural food colorings on their potential hazard list as well.

The official website does state the following:

“Every ingredient in the DermMatch formula is tested and rated Safe As Used.  DermMatch is a topical cosmetic, not a drug. DermMatch does not contain any hair dye”

Still, with no information about the specific names it’s impossible for consumers to make their own judgements. So it’s unknown whether or not this would be safe to use.

They do add how it’s safe to use with people with hair transplants, using hair regrowth medication, or those with alopecia areata. Thee haven’t been any issues with side effects judging from all the available customer reviews, but it would have been useful to see what they add to ensure it’s truly safe for everyone to use.

    DermMatch Quality of Ingredients

dermmatch2Without being able to see a full ingredients list it’s impossible to determine the overall quality.  Figuring out whether or not they use cheap, ineffective, or potentially hazardous additives is important to know, and you can’t figure this information out.

There were some customers who mentioned specific ingredients added, but without a full ingredients list it’s impossible to determine if they are still current. None of the customers mentioned any ingredients which would make the appearance of hair, only things like dyes and other common cosmetic additives are mentioned.

The website does add the following however:

“DermMatch works for men and women of any age, hair color, and skin color or hair style. It works on bald heads, shaved heads, and long hair, shot hair, kinky, braided, curled or dyed hair”

It’s also meant to be long lasting and used to last all conditions. One can even use it to swim with without the fear of it rubbing off. The website also states:

“You can create natural hairlines temples, eyebrows and beards. You can even color gray roots with it. DermMatch application is flexible. It can be faded along hairlines for a naturally stunning appearance”

They also do offer a risk free return policy which is helpful for those concerned with whether or not it’s truly effective. In looking at the customer reviews it does appear that most people felt it was a quality product that could make hair appear natural.

Still, it would have been useful to understand exactly what’s used to determine whether or not it’s a quality product. Concerned customers would be unable to know whether or not the ingredients used are actually safe and effective. There are claims that those with sensitive skin can still use it, but no evidence is provided other than the claim that natural ingredients are added.

The Price and Quality of DermMatch

Pricing is the same for each color, but depending on the disk the prices are:

One disc costs $47. Shipping in the US $4.95.

Two disc cost $94. Shipping for US customers is $9.95.

3 disks and receive 1 free disc for $141. Shipping is the same as the two discs and is $9.95 for US customers.

The website estimates that one disc can last a total of 8 months. However, if used on a larger area it’s unlikely to last as long. The company also mentions that it’s one of the few brands that can last for such a long period, which is true.

With no information to determine the real ingredients used it’s impossible to make a judgement on the overall quality. In reading customer reviews there hasn’t been any issues with people experiencing side effects, but not many reviews are available so it’s impossible to determine if everyone will have the same experience.

Considering the amount of time each disc lasts, it is a fairly high quality product, assuming the stated estimates are true. The fact that it can stick on even during swimming is unique to just this brand. This makes it a superior brand that can resist things like sweat, wind, and moisture.

The issue still stands in not knowing what they use as their full ingredients list. It’s unknown what their main ingredient is for making the appearance of hair. Things like colorants, aloe vera, tend talc wouldn’t have such an effect. So it’s important to know what they use in order to determine the overall quality.

Their money back return policy does state:

“If for any reason you are not delighted with DermMatch, we will refund the purchase price, less shipping & handling. You keep the product. You have 60 days from the date of purchase”

Customers are supported by this guarantee to help ease the possibility of it not working. The only price one would have to pay is for shipping and handling. They also mention on their website about the pricing:

“Most hair concealers come in a spray can or a jar full of fiber. Spray cans are full of propellant. Fiber cans are full of hair. DermMatch is a solid product. One DermMatch disc is $47 and lasts three times longer than any spray can or fiber jar”

So when compared to other products it does have a longer lasting yield, and it’s intended to also resist sweat, moisture, wind, and rubbing.

Purchases can be made via credit card and PayPal via the official website or in select online retailers such as Amazon.com and the beauty store Folica. Sales can also be made to any country and orders are expected to arrive within 2 to 4 weeks in a discrete small white box. This is to protect customers who are concerned about others knowing they are using this product.

There is also an EZ Grip and EZ Reach Applicator that comes in every order for free. Any of these that are lost can be order from the company for free as long as shipping and handling is paid.

    Business of DermMatch

The company’s name is DermMatch, Inc. and their contact information is listed as:

    Address: 900 Albee Road

    Nokomis, Florida 34275

    Phone Number: (800) 826-2824

An additional contact form is also offered for direct emails to the company. They can be reached via telephone from 9am to 5pm Eastern time.

They also offer a 100% money back guarantee which returns the purchase price but not shipping and handling. There’s no need to return the bottle and the guarantee is backed by a 60 day return.

They are said to have been operational since 1992, providing dermatologists and hair restorations surgeons with this product for children, men and women. Other than this information, there is little shared by the company about their practiced on their official website.

A better Business Bureau page is available which reveals they currently have an A + rating. However, they have no customer reviews about their company either positive or negative. They are also not BBB accredited, so it’s unlikely that they will respond to any comments or concerns.

Other than a Linked In page, there is no social media presence by the company. Very little exists about them outside their official website.

They do provide a safety warning for customers which read:

“All your information is held in the strictest confidence. We do not trade, rent or sell your information to outside companies. Our website is McAfee Certified. Our website is tested constantly by McAfee for vulnerabilities. It is the highest standard of security”

From reading all the available information about this company it appears they are not operating a scam. Being around since 1992 with no customer complaints is difficult to obtain. There is very little presence from the owners, but judging from the available data it appears they are safe to trust.

No customers have mentioned any issues with not being able to schedule a return within the allowed 60 days.

They also offer some before and after photos from 9 different users, with 3 of them being women. Judging from the available photos there have been impressive differences in the appearance of people’s hair.

    Customer Opinions of DermMatch

There’s currently only the Amazon.com page of DermMatch to showcase what kinds of reviews it has. A total of 130 reviews are offered, with 102 being positive and 28 being negative. Here are some direct quotes taken from positive customer experiences:

“I do cross-fit for a workout and sweat like a fiend – it stays in place”

“It works particularly well foe thinning hair, as the black color / impact on surrounding hair creates an unbelievable seamless effect”

“I’ve used this product for several years and sweat by it! It works beautifully and looks entirely natural. No one believes I use anything or that my hair is extremely thin on my crown”

“This product is completely different than the fibers, it’s more like a waterproof makeup. It doesn’t “thicken:” hair so much as darkens the scalp, creating the illusion of more coverage”

Those who have tried many other concealers will mention that they’ve enjoyed DermMatch better due to its cheaper price and natural appearance. There was also praise about its ability to not wash out even during swimming. People did mention that the only way it would come out is if one either uses shampoo, or does not use enough to coat their hair. Both men and women have used it to great success. Those that made sure to blow dry and stylize to meet their preference also added how it can be shaped to fit your needs.

Here are a few of the select reviews taken from 28 critical customer opinions:

“I tried it initially and liked it but it took many strokes of getting a heavy color to fill in my bald areas. The powder is really tough to scrub out and it just wasn’t enough coverage for me”

“Not ok because it takes too long to get it to work… it took me every morning about 15 minutes without including the time spent for shower

“It is really good to cover any “weak “ spots, but it is certainly not the product to use daily”

“It doesn’t apply easy and actually has pulled hairs out when trying to apply”

The few negative reviews were due to the amount of time it takes to add, the frustration of application, and the fact that it can look like shoe polish and artificial especially if one is bald. It was also difficultly for some to stylize it as it can end up in patches. The appearance of a shiny head was also a major problem that caused some users to give up on it.

In reviewing YouTube videos it did appear to take some time to apply, in particular more time is needed if one is bald. One sped up video took more than 9 minutes in order for it to apply with continuous dabs of DermMatch.

There are also a total of 172 reviews on a website called Folica which also sells it. All the reviews summed up have averaged to a 4 out of 5 star rating. People are allowed to submit information about which hairstyle they most likely resemble. Judging from the available information both curly and straight hair styles can be used this to mostly positive reviews. Here are some select reviews:

“So this product covers the thinning but basically turns your hair to straw. Incredibly drying. It comes with an oil gel but that only works in the short term”

“It’s like art, some ppl are good at it and other sucks, In the beginning you might be frustrated because you don’t how know exactly to put it on”

One customer added the following suggestion to properly apply it:

“Here’s my technique, wet your hair considerably, then take the little sponge tool and wet that also ,swirl it generously around in the dermatch pallet until the color coats the sponge, then apply it to your hair, don’t be afraid to sue force and literally paint your head with it”

Judging from all the available customer reviews, it’s important to make sure one considers the following:

It can take some time to figure out exactly how much should be added, as well as how to properly stylize it. People expecting a simple process of piling it on would not benefit. Bald heads in particular can take extra time to properly add it.

There were many issues with dry hair. It’s important to wet the applying swab.

It is mostly made for thinning hair. Bald spots can use this, but without existing hair it won’t produce any long strands. One will appear to have a buzz cut if completely bald. Customers who were bald often rejected it and said it didn’t work however.

How does DermMatch Compare to other Brands?

There are many fundamental differences between DermMatch and its competitors. A unique ability is that it won’t wash off even when one swims. So far this is the only cosmetic hair concealer which has this effect.

Another thing which is unique is that there is no explanation offered as to what’s inside of it. They claim all natural ingredients are used which are safe, but no explanation as to what the names are of each additive.

This brand is slightly lower in cost, and they offer a longer guarantee at 60 days in comparison to some brands that offer only 30. They also have been around for a much longer period. Many other brands have only been in circulation since the 2000’s, while DermMatch began in 1992.

Most customers did enjoy the fact that it costs less and there is a lot of product offered. One disc can last a total of 8 months and it costs only $47. The majority of users did say however that it can take time to apply. There is often shaping and it can take some time to style it to meet one’s preference. This is often how other hair concealers work however. They can take patience to make sure they appear to one’s chosen hairstyle. The main difference with DermMatch is that it’s made to last a long time, even when exposed to swimming, wind, and hair brushing.

Overall price, durability, functionality, and length of a guarantee are the main separating good traits. The lack of ingredients listed is the main separating issue.

    Conclusion – Does DermMatch Work?

DermMatch is a hair concealer brand that’s cheaper and longer lasting than the competition. The manufactures mention only natural ingredients are added and the majority of reviews for it are positive.

The major concern with this product is that there is no information about what ingredients they use. All natural additives can still be potentially harmful. They do offer a risk free 60 day money back guarantee, but this is at the cost of potentially risking one’s health.

There haven’t been any known customer complaints about its use however. Not one case of rashes, irritation, or any kind of unwanted symptoms was mentioned by any users. It’s important to note that only a few customer reviews are available online.

No perfect solution for hair conceals exist as none of them help to regrow hair, and it can take time to stylize to be made to look natural. DermMatch does offer a water proof, long lasting hair concealer backed by a great money back return policy.
